Was in Seattle for the one-day Search Engine Watch Live workshop at the Hotel Monaco (which was good). When the workshop ended, went to dinner with Tassoula and Kelley (which was also good!). And then Tassoula, who couldn’t believe I’d never seen some of the famous downtown sights before, showed me around the area quickly while we dodged rain drops. (Thanks TEK!)
Took about 5-10 pix, but this one — even a bit crooked — was the best.

SEATTLE – Seattle Police are investigating a homicide that occurred in the South Lake Union neighborhood late Friday night. Okay all,
I was up very late and was not clear. Fed Supp is published by West Publishing a private company. West Pub also owns Westlaw an on-line service. West Pub has been in business since around 1880.
West published the “unofficial” reporter series, which prints “for publication” opinions. (West also is the “official” reporter for some states which have ceased putting out an official reporter)
In order to have a competitive edge with the “official” publications, West puts extensive headnotes to the cases, and gets them into print much faster than the official reporters. This sometimes results in a case being withdrawn, amended, or “depublished” after West put it into the West reporters, and before it showed up in the official reporter.
One thing West would not do is put a case into the Fed Supp if they had any thought that it would be withdrawn or amended on a then-pending motion for reconsideration.
Two things that West does look at is whether a district court opinion is well reasoned and whether the district court opinion is going to be the last full treatment of the case. In short, West's corporate opinion is that the Circuit court is going to uphold Carter, and adopt his reasoning.
