Seattle schools, teachers reach tentative pact
(AP:SEATTLE) Seattle’s teachers union and Seattle Public School have reached a tentative agreement on a three-year labor contract. Superintendent Maria Goodloe-Johnson says the agreement includes a new evaluation system that takes into account improvement in student learning.

Hmm….I am sorry to hear that is in the cartoon. I have been a product of public schools both in Taiwan and here in the U.S. Honestly, I think it does make a huge difference if the community is invovled in the schools. The message of late seems to be “it takes a village…” So, you are right about the importance of public support for the public schools in the community. The biggest difference in the public schools in Taiwan and the U.S. is that the people in Taiwan put public schools on a pedistal and the childen that does not make the cut (in middle and high schools), has to attend the private schools.

NAN, your example is exactly what's wrong with our public schools. Charter schools are supposed to be experiments. Alternative learning systems that prove successful are then to be incorporated back into the public schools, not for the charter schools to operate indefinitely. Charter schools as they function today, contrary to the original intent of the law, are bleeding our public schools dry.
