Cutting Corners Part 5 – Air Crash Investigation/Mayday, Seattle
Alaska Airlines Flight 261 is heading for Seattle via San Francisco but its trimmable horizontal stabilizer jams due to a worn jackscrew assembly. The pilots try to resolve the situation but the stabilizer breaks free from its control system and the aircraft dives inverted into the Pacific Ocean, causing the death of all on board.

all of those planes should be upgraded, scary to think they may be still in service.
Wow. I am literally at a loss for words. I’ve known about this crash for a while but, sadly, had forgotten a lot of the details and the severity of this extreme case of human error a la faulty maintenance procedures, all for the sake of saving a buck. That poor woman from 3:07 – 3:21 looked like she was in so much pain. All of those family and friends were suffering unnecessary pain. Talk about a pointless incident. Can’t even call it an “accident” because this was deliberate.
@ACDC2K10 because he report against the company showing all the faults on maintenance work, so the alaska airline company had to fire him (think for example like a traitor), you work for a company and then secretly you accuse the company you work for , for the mistakes and errors that exist,. he should have been promoted to something higher after the incident ,because he was hte only one who twas doing the job correctly and he was hte one who noticed that the screw needed to be changed

My heart goes out to him, and everyone who lost their lives and their families and friends.
Its VERY hard to punish just one person in a situation like this, as an engineer can say this, then his boss says that and overides what he said, then the next person inline has a different opinion. Alaska Airline is disgusting.
Save grease, make more money, what a dumb concept of this industry?
Just one screw brought down this aircraft and costs innocent 88 lives.
What kind of aircraft design was that? Where did those aircraft designers got their degrees, MIT? How did they got admission? All fake industry brings the doom.

You’re right. Above all, this is America. And not just the airliners. Think about the junk food, the drugs’ industry, the insurance industry, and many others…
I hate it when it turns out a plane crashed because the airliner was trying to save money. It’s as if the airliner is effectively putting a price on human life, and not a very high one at that. It disgusts me.

well there is the problem, the jack screw was not re designed was because of the stupid person in charge of maintenance
the ae86 is lighter than the mr2, so that's one reason why it was able to catch up. other reason is because the ae86 is lower powered than the mr2, which allows it to go into and out of corners at a good speed. plus, when a car has its engine in the back, it over steers quite a bit.
