Cutting Corners Part 3 – Air Crash Investigation/Mayday, Seattle
Alaska Airlines Flight 261 is heading for Seattle via San Francisco but its trimmable horizontal stabilizer jams due to a worn jackscrew assembly. The pilots try to resolve the situation but the stabilizer breaks free from its control system and the aircraft dives inverted into the Pacific Ocean, causing the death of all on board.

i dont like to fly in the super 80 because i always fear this will happen
this caused my carrier to over inspect are dhc-2 dhc-3 and all cessnas with there 2 stab screws
@Dmetrey437 Because there isn’t part 2 here. I saw the whole story and in the second part they show the first “dive” and the tentative to maintain the flight at 24,000 ft.

Why do we have to listen to the sleazy lawyer ‘Schiavo’ describe the events unfolding in the plane and the cockpit? She speaks as though she was there; she has no authority or expertise to comment on the final moments of this flight. I would rather listen to aviation experts like John Nance and heart felt comments from the families effected by the crash, not some pathetic loudmouth lawyer who can’t shut up.

This pilot saved countless lives by crashing into the bay. The area adjacent to LAX is one of the most densely populated places in the nation.
@FLT111 Airbus systems are very safe, it takes much more than simple instrument failure to make aircraft unflyable, fly by wire is just so safe system that it takes very much damage that it shuts down.
If you mean Air France accident, pilot can still fly plane after pitot tubes fail, it doesnt matter are you in boeing, MD plane or Airbus when pitot tubes froze.
In real, they managed to stableize it i think at 24,000 ft and then the dive happened again but here they didnt show that happen. Thats why i hate this program

Yeah , but if you jump out lower altitude or even hold your breath for couple mins and get less oxygen, its much more likely to survive than u are slamming into the ground or ocean. Im not saying it is going to guarrantee survival, its just increasing your options.

I just saw a story this morning on the news about how more and more people are surviving plane crashes. They gave tips on what to do in the event of a crash. Get out within 90 seconds, position your body appropriately for the actual crash, stay below the smoke as you're trying to get out of the plane, etc. They're also using flame-retardant material and designing seats that will bend and lean forward in the event of a crash instead of coming loose and flying through the air.]]>
