Change Ringing Tower Bells are featured on this podcast. The inaugural ceremony and ring took place on May 31, 2008. This is the only set of Changing Ringing Tower Bells on the West Coast of the United States. These new bells were installed at Gerberding Hall on the campus of the University of Washington through a donation by the Gordon Stuart Peek Foundation. The tower captain is Rebecca Woodgate, a Senior Oceanographer at UW. This clip is part of a full episode that aired on SCAN TV in Seattle (Comcast channel 77 or Broadstripe [formerly Millennium] channel 23) on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 6:30 pm PST.

  4. MrUNIXman says:

It the bells quite loud in the ringing chamber it reminds me of a church I have rang in the past. Where the room is right under the bells. As I notice the sally goes through the celing does that have impact on the sounds of the bells ie blocking some of the sounds out as this tower I rang at did.

  5. internationalartists says:

You would need to contact the ringers there to find out for sure.

  6. RESPECTME90 says:

I think anyone can go up there and ring the bell upon request and reservation, am I right?

We have one set in Arkansas, I have gotten to hear them before, and it is a very beautiful thing to hear! They can be heard for quite a long way, unlike the Carrilon.

St. Andrews Cathedral in Honolulu has a set of 8 change ringing bells. I just did a little video of them after church today (11/9/08). It is posted here. It’s a very nice set of redundant bells from England.

  21. Audinos says:

Very nice! There many be no other towers like this in the western US, but there are three not far from Seattle: one in Victoria (Anglican cathedral) and two in Vancouver (Holy Rosary Cathedral and Westminster Abbey, Mission – both Catholic).

Fun fact: Tableau was a project spun out of Stanford in the San Francisco Bay Area and was headquartered there until our early move to Seattle. Today, we came back to our home with the first ever San Francisco Tableau User Group, right where we initially began.

More than 70 people turned out, with equal halves of the audience from the business and IT sectors. People were also evenly split from the SF and Silicon Valley areas.

David Stone of eBay started the meeting by sharing the story of eBay’s Tableau community. There was never any formal announcement about Tableau; people simply started picking it up as they wanted to interact with and visualize the data themselves. Now, the eBay user community stands at an incredible 7,000 users–all organic growth.
