Brink is supposed to enable anyone, even bad gamers, to get that experience that normally only an elite Team Fortress 2 player might have, an experience of slick coordination in which everyone knows their role and slickly performs it. That bad player might as well have been me. And a year after Wedgwood told me Brink could deliver that opportunity, I tried the game — and — he was right.

    Brink, ingeniously, works.

    And more impressions from Gamercon:

VG247: Brink was recently delayed into 2011, which is kind of a bummer, because I want to buy it. Could you explain why you felt like the game needed a little extra time in the oven?

Paul Wedgwood: We’re not adding any additional things to it. Essentially, we’re gonna spend longer in the beta phase. Because it’s a really ambitious game, and now that people can see what we’ve done with weapons – the number of weapons, the number of weapon modifications, the number of abilities, the number of items and gadgets – they can see the interrelations between those many components sets up some very specific balancing challenges. And for Brink, we want to make sure people enjoy playing months after they’ve started playing – or years after they’ve started playing! I think in order for us to achieve that well, we want to have the best possible period of balancing and polishing.

I went to Seattle in September of 2010 for PAX Prime. I really think it is one of the most fantastic cities I have ever been to. The culture there is so rich. The city in itself is gorgeous. I would seriously consider moving to Seattle one day.

I like to the idea of changing to wedgwood blue as well, but did you know Jefferson's dining room was originally crome yellow? Very much like Dolley Madison's at Montpelier. The blue came as a 19th century change by the Levy family when they owned Monticello.Margaret Truman's sitting room was wedgwood blue following the Truman Restoration.]]>

Your experiment is very interesting! You're absolutely correct in thinking that in purchasing the apple, Goldman would argue that the two descriptions of my act, “I'm buying a scarab green apple” and “I'm buying a green apple,” refer to two distinct acts. I don't think that's what people's intuitions are. Their intuition is just that there are multiple descriptions for one act.Goldman argues as much in other cases. For example, he cites a case where Smith greets a caller by saying “Hello” loudly. He believes that the two descriptions, “Smith greets the caller by saying “Hello”" and “Smith greets the caller by saying “Hello” loudly” refers to two distinct acts. I agree with you that in cases like this people are talking about the same instance falling under two universals.Cool!]]>
