The Seattle monorail (which I remember from my childhood days) almost literally goes right through this building. I say almost because the building doesn’t entirely envelop the track, but was rather built around it; the building is much newer, and definitely did not exist when I lived in Seattle in the early 80s. Anyhoo, the configuration really has this retro-future look to it; the kind of sci-fi world people imagined we’d be living in now about 40 years ago

Coast Guard Escort

Frequently, the Seattle ferries sail with escort from the Coast Guard. They played a recording over the PA on the ferry to let us know that this is strictly routine, and there is nothing to be alarmed about. Considering the size of the weapon mounted in the front of those boats, I’d say that was a good idea. Regardless, I’m used to this concept, as I see them run alongside the ferries most every day from my office window.
